NON-INVASIVE FRACTURE HEALING
Bone growth stimulation is a safe, non-surgical treatment option for long bone and small bone non-unions. This is not applicable or necessary for all fractures, but is a useful alternative for slow healing, or problem fractures, or in instances where the patient is at risk of developing a non-union. Using electricity or ultrasound, bone growth stimulator generates a magnetic or mechanical signal and stimulates the body's normal bone healing process which may be impaired or absent. The device may be worn over a cast, external fixator, orthopedic brace, or clothing without losing its effectiveness. Bone growth stimulation is a treatment for non-unions, and may also be used as an adjunct to surgery to promote healing of a fracture or fusion site.
